Ruchill Community Golf Facility, Glasgow
Opened September 2009
Colin Montgomery OBE, one of Scotland’s greatest golfers officially opened the new Ruchill Community Golf Facility, which he helped to design. The facility will provide an important part in Scotland’s national junior golf strategy with planned coaching facilities for young people. As landscape architects ANLA has been involved at various stages since the closure of the former course in 1997, providing the community steering group and projects managers with technical support and design advice to develop and deliver the project. The early stages involved the infilling of former railway cuttings and tunnels within and adjacent to the old golf course. The purpose of this was to remove the dereliction and unsafe areas, and provide a larger area for the golf course redevelopment and car park. Later on, the practice designed the new planting which integrated the course with the new housing developed at the edge as part of the urban regeneration.
